Privacy Policy
How Rise handles your data, in plain words.
Last updated: October 2026
Rise is a meditation timer for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android. We keep it simple: we collect only what the app needs to work, your practice is visible only to you, and we never sell your data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Rise Meditation Timer app ("the App") and the website risemeditation.app ("the Website") collect, why, and what choices you have. The App is published by Yauheni Barkouski ("Rise", "we", "us" and "our"). By using the App or the Website you agree to this Policy.
In short
  • Your practice is saved to your Rise account, so it isn't lost when you change phones. Only you can see it.
  • Signing in is optional. Sign in with Apple or Google to use the same account on several devices.
  • Heart rate is saved to your account only if you allow it. You can turn this off at any time.
  • Health data is never used for advertising and is never sold.
  • You can delete your account and everything in it right in the App.
  • News by email only if you ask for it.
Your Rise account
When you first open the App, it quietly creates a guest account for you. It has no name or email, just a random ID linked to this device, so your practice is saved from the start.
Your sessions are saved to this guest account even if you never sign in. Only this device can open it. If you delete the App without signing in, the guest account can't be opened again. Guest accounts that no device has used for 12 months are deleted automatically, together with their sessions. Your sessions are still on your phone; if you open the App again, it starts a new guest account and saves them there.
You can sign in with Apple or Google to use the same account on another iPhone or Android phone. When you sign in, we receive:
  • Your name, if you share it. You can change it in Settings → Account.
  • Your email. With Apple you can choose to hide it; we then get a private relay address from Apple.
  • Your profile photo from Google, if you have one.
  • Which sign-in methods you use.
We do not receive your Apple or Google password.
You can add or remove sign-in methods in Settings → Account. If you add Google to an Apple account that has no email, we keep the Google email on your account even after you disconnect Google, so you can still sign in and we can match your accounts.
What we save in your account
  • Sessions. Start and end time, time zone, your own Mind and Body ratings, the resting heart rate used to score the session, and which device recorded it.
  • Heart rate during sessions, only if you allow it (see below).
  • Your profile: name, email and photo as described above, app version and platform, and your choices about heart rate and email news.
Sessions are always saved to your account; syncing them is what the account is for, and there is no option to keep them only on the phone. If you don't want them stored with us, delete your account (see below).
Scores like Mind, Body and Calm Time are not stored on our servers. The App works them out on your device from the data above.
Your account is stored with Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication). It is encrypted in transit and at rest, and our access rules let only your own account read or change it.
Heart rate in your account
During setup, when you connect Apple Health or Health Connect, the App tells you that your heart rate will be saved to your Rise account so it syncs across your devices. Tapping Connect means you agree.
You can stop this at any time with Sync heart rate in the App. It is one setting for your whole account: turn it off on one device and heart rate stops being sent from all your devices, and we remove it from all your saved sessions. The heart rate stays on your phone.
Information on your device
The App also keeps your sessions, scores, settings and reminders on your device so it works offline. Settings such as theme and reminders are not synced.
Apple Health and Apple Watch (iPhone)
With your permission, Rise connects to Apple Health:
  • Reads heart rate and resting heart rate, to show how your body responded to a session.
  • Writes Mindful Minutes and meditation workouts, so your practice appears in Health.
Heart rate during a session is recorded by Rise on Apple Watch. You can change Health permissions at any time in iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Rise.
Health Connect (Android)
With your permission, Rise connects to Health Connect:
  • Reads heart rate and resting heart rate, recorded by your watch or other apps, to calculate your session metrics.
  • Writes mindfulness sessions, so your practice appears in Health Connect.
You can change these permissions at any time in Health Connect → App permissions → Rise.
Rise's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we treat health data
Health data from Apple Health, Health Connect and Apple Watch:
  • is used only to show your meditation results and progress in the App;
  • is saved to your Rise account only with your permission, and only so it syncs across your devices;
  • is not sent to analytics or advertising services;
  • is never sold, used for advertising or shared with anyone except Google Firebase, which stores it for us;
  • is not used to make medical claims. Rise is not a medical device.
Email news
In Settings → Account you can tick "Send me news and practices from Rise". It is off unless you turn it on. If you do, we use your email to send occasional news and practices through an email service provider. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can untick the box at any time.
Information collected automatically
  • App usage analytics: Google Firebase Analytics. Screens opened, features used (for example, a session started or a paywall shown), app version, device model, operating system, country and a random app instance ID. We use it to understand which features help people practice and to fix problems. It does not include your health data.
  • Content delivery: Google Firebase. Courses, articles and quotes are downloaded from Firebase. Like any web request, this involves your IP address and basic device information.
Subscriptions and payments
Rise Premium is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Payments are processed by Apple or Google. We never see your card details.
We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives the purchase receipt, product, price, country and your Rise account ID, so Premium works on all your devices. It does not receive your name or payment details.
To manage or cancel a subscription:
  • iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
  • Android: Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
Notifications
Practice reminders are scheduled on your device. The best time for a reminder is worked out on your device from your practice history. Nothing about it is sent to us.
Some notifications, such as a reminder that a special offer is ending, come from our server. For this we save in your account a push token for each phone (a random code from Apple or Google that lets us reach that phone), the app version and your phone's time zone, so we don't send anything at night. The token is removed when you sign out or delete your account.
When you contact us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to reply and to help you, and delete them when they are no longer needed.
Website
The Website is hosted by Webflow and protected by Cloudflare. It uses cookies and similar technologies from Google Analytics and Meta Pixel to understand visits and measure our ads. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

We do not sell your data
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the service providers above, when required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (and then only under this Policy).
How long we keep data
  • Your account and sessions: until you delete your account.
  • Guest accounts (never signed in): deleted automatically after 12 months without use.
  • Heart rate in your account: until you turn off Sync heart rate or delete your account.
  • Data on your device: until you sign out, delete it or delete the App.
  • Analytics data: for a limited time set in Google Firebase, then deleted automatically.
  • Emails to us: as long as needed to help you.
When you sign out, your sessions stay in your account and come back when you sign in again.
Deleting your account
Go to Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, all your sessions and your heart rate from our servers right away. No app? Write to us and we will do it for you. Step by step: Delete your account.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in the App Store or Google Play as described above.
Your rights and choices
  • Heart rate sync: turn it on or off at any time with Sync heart rate.
  • Health access: turn it on or off in Apple Health or Health Connect. Rise keeps working without it, but without heart rate.
  • Email news: tick or untick the box in Settings → Account, or use the unsubscribe link.
  • Notifications: turn them off in the App or in your phone's settings.
  • Delete your account in the App at any time.
  • Access, correction, export: depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR in the EEA and UK or CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, object to or restrict its use, and complain to a data protection authority. Write to us and we will help.
We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Legal bases (EEA and UK)
We process information to provide the App you chose to use (your account, sync and subscriptions), on the basis of your consent (heart rate in your account, Health access, email news, notifications), and for our legitimate interests in improving and securing the App (analytics).
International transfers
Rise is based in the United States. Our service providers, including Google Firebase, may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, they use safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Children
Rise is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
Your account data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access rules allow only your own account to read or change it. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy when the App changes. We will change the date at the top. For important changes we may also let you know in the App.
